Limestone or Marble??

Am about to purchase a new fireplace and would love a limestone surround but a few retailers have suggested that it is not a practical material for a family with children & a dog!  They tell me it stains and marks VERY easily, even if sealed and that marble would be a much better choice.  Anybody with any experience of limestone fireplaces?
