Hi, we're due to move in to our new townhome shortly. We've been in the premises to conduct early inspections and noticed that our kitchen island, which has a thick dark-grey 6 ft section of solid granite countertop, has a couple of small nicks that are about 1/8 inch in diameter or perhaps slightly larger and about as deep. There's also a section closer to one edge that contains a strip crystal inclusion running about 6-8 inches long and 2-4 inches wide. While there are a couple of tiny nicks in this crystal area, the surface is otherwise smooth, but the crystal does appear fractured into small cube-like clusters beneath the clear surface.
For a brand new countertop, are these nicks and this crystal inclusion something I should consider unacceptable and expect the developer to replace, or if I point this out on a deficiency/snag list is the best I can hope to expect is a touch-up based on what would be considered appropriate for this type of material? Can larger crystal inclusions in granite stand up to pots etc getting banged on it or hot items placed on it.
I'd appreciate any suggestions you could provide.
Thanks and Kind Regards,
Thomas
