How to remove scratches from the countertop

Question,  I have honed black slate countertop in our bathroom.  I'm not
sure if it's sealed but I don't want it to be shiny.  If it's honed, does
that mean it's not shiny?  We have scratches on it, how do I remove
scratches and how do I maintain the countertop?
