sandstone countertops??

i have been planning to use caesarstone in my new kitchen. it's ok and fits the modern decor and seems easy. but it ain't cheap and i don't really love it.

then i saw sandstone countertops in a coffee shop near me. i love them. soft to the touch and natural and just really nice. i read that they're quartz and sand. the color range would work.

can anyone advise on whether sandstone is an acceptable material to use for kitchen countertops? they can or should be sealed? i'm not finding much of anything on line. is this a poor choice?

any info from those in the know would be greatly appreciated. thank you!!
