Visible side seam on Granite

Hello,
I just had 1 1/2 inch granite counter tops installed the other day. The granite appears to be two pieces one on top of the other and is glued together. So from the side you see a very visible line were both meet.
Is this the norm, have I been given cheap granite and is there a way to polish the sides so that you dont see the seam.
