How to remove rust/reddish stain

Our patio/porch slate floor has a rust or reddish stain that is growing and spreading over the slate.  We have used water and soap trying to clean it but not successful.  Appreciate any advice on how to clean/remove this stain.  It appears to be some type of mold or fungus but not sure.
