marble spots from toothpaste?

    Is there something in toothpaste (e.g., silica or pepermint oils, etc) that would etch a marble vanity surface if not wiped up promptly? Our granddaughters use our sinks to clean their teeth when they are here and we have noticed distinct spots around the sink bowls where the glossy finish is now dull.
