Uba Tuba often has black spots in it.  As with all natural stone there is going to be variations in color and pattern.  That is why it's important to inspect the piece that will become your countertop thoroughly before fabrication.

All granite needs to be sealed to protect against staining.  Sealers have come a long way in recent years and are easy to apply and can last for many years.
