Question about marble

I just bought a house with the most beautiful orange/gold marble counter tops.  I have read all of your horror stories about marble countertops but am not prepared to rip them out at this point.  So what shall I do to maximize them.  I do not want to adjust to the etchings if I can do something to prevent it.  Should I get a professional or can I seal them myself.  How often do I need to seal them, etc.  There must be some advice you can give me other than put in granite.
