Our granite countertop (called Kashmire Gold Light?) was recently damaged when the exterior brick on the wall adjacent to the countertop was removed with a jackhammer. (We are adding on to our house)
There are two large cracks radiating from the anterior corners of our cooktop. I'm assuming this happened because the hole that was cut into the slab of granite for the cooktop created stress at these corners. The anterior margin of the granite is actually completely seperated from the rest of the slab because of these two cracks. You can also see similar cracks in the posterior margin but I can't tell if they go all the way through.
The stone company is going to come out tomorrow to repair the granite. If it doesn't meet with our approval then then our general contractor said he would replace the countertops if he had to. The stone guys said they would have to repace all of the granite on all of the countertops and the island since they could not match it.
I love my granite and would hate to replace it all but on the otherhand, I worry that I will have a recurrence of this problem because the seams will never be as strong.
What would you advise?
