Need Help choosing Granite

Hi, I am looking to replace my countertops with granite and would like to know if black pearl is a good color of granite to go with? It seems many people have issues with stains or watermarks so would a lighter color be better? Also is it true that you don't need to seal black granite? If this is the case wouldn't it stain even more?
