how to remove smoke stains from travertine

Hi-I recently had a fire in  my fireplace after a long period of not 
using it.  There was a lot of smoke and the travertine slab above the 
fireplace extending to the ceiling is now badly stained.  Any ideas 
of how to remove the smoke stain from travertine?
